Credentialing with Blue Cross Blue Shield

Navigating BCBS credentialing can be quite complex due to its state and provider type
specificity. Let’s delve into the nuances…
In various states, BCBS goes by different names. Here are a couple of examples:
BCBCS in the following states is called Anthem:
 CA
 CO
 CT
 GA
 IN
 KY
 ME
 MO
 NH
 NV
 NY
 OH
 VA
 WI

BCBS in Florida is called Florida Blue
BCBS in the West-Northwest is called Regence, and another one is called Premera.
BCBS in Pennsylvania is called Highmark
BCBS in Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia is called Carefirst
BCBS in New Jersey is called Highmark

Next, it's crucial to ascertain whether BCBS handles provider credentialing internally or if they outsource
this process to other healthcare insurance

Anthem delegates all their Mental Health provider credentialing to an insurance entity called Carelon
(formerly known as Beacon Health Options). Please note that Carelon has been encountering significant
delays in contract generation.
In Florida, BCBS (Florida Blue) delegates their Mental Health provider credentialing to an insurance
entity named Lucet.

With this information in hand, the credentialing process should hopefully be smoother.
