United Healthcare Credentialing

UHC is one of the country’s largest healthcare insurances, and undoubtedly one of the most common. However, provider enrollment and credentialing can still be tricky if you don’t know what you are doing. The following guide is a helpful resource a provider or office staff can use while navigating the process.

  • UHC Medical

Think of UHC as the parent company. They do credentialing in-house for all medical provider types. To initiate a credentialing process, a provider will need to a portal account, and then register the business in the portal…..using the following link (https://www.uhcprovider.com/)……once completed, you access the credentialing application by clicking on the Onboard Pro Tool link. All communication with UHC is now done directly through the Onboard Pro Tool portal….and the only way to communicate with a rep/agent from UC is by initiating a chat through the portal.

  • United Behavioral Health

UHC outsources all their Mental Health provider credentialing to their sister company called UBH/Optum. Similar to UHC credentialing, a mental health provider would need to go to (https://public.providerexpress.com/content/ope-provexpr/us/en.html) and register a portal login account….once in, a provider can start an NPRF application requesting an IN-Network contract. Contrary to UHC, Optum called me reached via phone at 877-614-0484.

  • Optum Physical Health

UHC also outsources its Physical Health provider specialties to Optum Physical Health….which is yet another dept under the UHC umbrella. Physical Health providers such as: Chiro, SLP/OT/PT, Dietitian, Massage, and Acupuncture submit the online “Request for Information” application for the business using the link (https://www.myoptumhealthphysicalhealth.com/), and Optum will contact you back with a packet to complete.
